Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's regal wedding was the event of the year. Celebrities like George Clooney, Serena Williams, Elton John, David Beckham, and the cast of Suits were all in attendance for the anniversary in Windsor, and over in London, Kristen Wiig crashed Funny or Dice and HBO's The Royal Hymeneals Live With Cord And Tish.
The Imperial Wedding ceremony Live With Cord And Tishmarked the triumphant return of Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon's quirky Rose Parade commentators Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan. The two characters first appeared in Funny or Die's bonkers collaboration with Amazon —The 2018 Rose Parade hosted by String and Tish — an experimental live comedy issue that addled serious Rose Parade enthusiasts, and enchanted comedy nerds. Cord and Tish'due south Royal Wedding coverage was less of a home run, if but because HBO didn't nab the rights to the anniversary itself, and then the first twoscore minutes was just String and Tish vamping from their berth in London. But things perked up as soon as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the church and the show really soared when Wiig made a surprise appearance in the last human action.
Kristen Wiig played a fictional columnist and author named Sir Albert Langham-Kingsley. Yeah, Sir Albert. Wiig donned a tweed suit, fake facial hair, and a plaid cap to play the ludicrous character. The character brought numerous gag pipes and a bunch of "scoops," similar how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were set to motility to Pittsburgh after the wedding. Sir Albert besides said that the invitee list included such luminaries as Ray Liotta, Capain Sully, Immature Sheldon, David Lynch, and David Simon. "No wedding is complete without David Simon, the creator of The Wire."
Other hilarious highlights? As the railroad vehicle took Prince Harry and Meghan Markle downward the glorious Long Walk — which was probably the most gorgeous shot of the whole carriage ride — Cord said they had some time to kill and asked Tish if she would sing the theme vocal from Sanford and Son with him. The juxtaposition between the two comedians singing a sitcom theme over a picture perfect fairy tale moment was hilarious.
Ferrell and Shannon also reprised some choice bits from the Rose Parade, like Cord'south insane fearfulness of horses. Tish tried to expose String to exposure therapy past bringing out a tiny toy horse. Cord predictably erupted. "Get that the f*ck abroad from me! Put that tiny horse back in that box. I'm going to lose my shit!"
And my personal favorite moment was the inflow of Old Manfred, one of Cord's 18 legendary Basset Hounds. The poor, sweet canis familiaris was clad in a tuxedo, prompting jokes well-nigh Saville Row and his penchant for sneaking away from Cord's home in Pasadena to raid the L.L. Bean outlet.
Was HBO'southward broadcast the platonic mode to watch the majestic wedding ceremony? No. Non at all. (What? I'm non going to lie to you. Fifty-fifty Tim Meadows quipped during the first twenty minutes, "We're having a nail out here. Simply i person has fallen asleep.") Merely equally a punk rock ship upward of the issue'southward padded out coverage, The Royal Wedding Live With Cord And Tish tin can't be shell.
If yous missed The Royal Wedding Live With Cord And Tish, it volition exist rebroadcast tonight on HBO and you can stream information technology on HBO Go or HBO NOW.
